It’s seems in the summer no matter how hard you try to keep your home smelling fresh there is an odor we just can’t seem to get rid of. It’s the smell of trash from our kitchen garbage can.
Not to worry, there are some simple ways to get rid of that bad smell and most of these solutions we all ready have in our homes.
Bleach
Bleach is a pretty strong disinfectant that can eliminate pretty much any odour you may have. To use bleach, you must make sure you are in a well ventilated area. Also make sure you wear old clothes in case you get any bleach on them. You’ll want to mix a quarter cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water. Using straight bleach is too strong and may harm the finish of your trash can. Bleach is not going to clean your garbage can so you should clean it out first. Bleach is used to kill all of those nasty germs that are causing the odour.
Baking Soda
Most of us have used baking soda in our refrigerators to eliminate odours, but you can also sprinkle some in the bottom of your trash can once a week to do the same thing.
Cat Litter
If cat litter can help with the odours from our cats then it would only make sense you could use this in your garbage can? Sprinkle a small bowl full of cat litter into the garbage bag when it’s empty, but you can also add some when it’s have full as well.
Dryer Sheets
There are so many wonderfully scented dryer sheets available. Take a few and throw them in your garbage can bag or on the bottom of the can while it’s empty. They can also be placed inside your heating vents of your home and when your air conditioner or furnace is running you’ll get that nice scent throughout your home. Make sure you place them inside the actual vent cover, we don’t want them sliding down the air ducts and clogging then up.
Summer heat can really excelerate odours in trash cans. Try one of these remedies or if you have one of your own that works well, please share your secret with us.
